The following text was provided by John Doss, Montgomery County Stormwater coordinator.
On June 21, 2008, citizens from around the area met at a Spring Creek tributary to help the environment. The Spring Creek Cleanup was sponsored jointly by the Montgomery County Storm Water Program, the Cumberland River Compact and the Red River Watershed Association.
The 32 volunteers removed approximately 400 pounds of trash and garbage, including three tires and a large quantity of old carpet that had been dumped in the creek. The pollutants were disposed of in a dumpster provided by Pete Reed of the Bi-County Landfill for that purpose.

Participants included members of the Cumberland River Compact, the Red River Watershed Association, Girl Scout Troop 293, six Kenwood High School students, employees of Crop Production Services and several individuals from the community at large.
The event was staged from the Crop Production Services parking lot at 5076 Guthrie Highway, and pizza for the volunteers was donated by Michael's Pizza and Chris Coffey of Friendly Environment, LLC. Crop Production Services also provided trucks to haul the collected trash and garbage from the creek to the dumpster (which CPS allowed to be placed in their parking lot), and provided ice and drinks for the volunteers.

The Cumberland River Compact provided the volunteers with gloves, trash bags and T-shirts to commemorate the event.
